I thought Cloverfield was decent, except for the ending - oh wait, Beal already mentioned that. And yeah, the characters were boring - wait, yup, that's already been brought up too. Writing was okay, check, and the buildings all looked fairly weighty. But that's just my opinion. I’m late to this converstaion, but what the heck.

Mostly, it was the staging of the big setpieces that did the lifting. The truth is, people <i>would be</i> annoying and uninteresting in such a situation, and since handicam movie strive for <i>realism</i>, it fits. This is neither the time nor the place!
